Toyota Motor Corporation's generous donation of $500,000 to The Schools Foundation in June 2001 provided the principle funding for the Toyota Interactive Distance Learning System. For the first time ever, new courses will be available in high schools throughout Huntsville, Madison County and the City of Madison, taught from remote sites in each system. College courses (both to students and teachers), virtual field trips, and inter-campus group meetings will all be available at each school's own campus. The coordination of the system's seventeen separate sites, among three participating systems, is unique in Alabama

The Alabama Supercomputer Authority (ASA), an agency of the State of Alabama, virtually eliminated start-up communications costs and ongoing operations costs of the Toyota Interactive Distance Learning System by providing Fiber optic and T-1 connectivity, broadband internet access, scheduling and all equipment and services necessary to provide a network operation center (hub) for the system.
