In 2021, the Huntsville Committee of 100 and The Schools Foundation launched the Raise Your Hand initiative with an ambitious goal: to raise $1 million to fund scholarships for 500 new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) across Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County Schools.

We are proud to share that this goal has been achieved! Thanks to the generosity and vision of our community, donors, educators, and leaders, our region is now poised to have the highest concentration of National Board Certified Teachers in the nation—a milestone that will strengthen public education for generations to come.

National Board Certification is a rigorous, multi-year process that advances teaching excellence and directly impacts student learning. Research shows that NBCTs increase literacy and math achievement, inspire deeper learning, and remain in the classroom longer, ensuring lasting success for our students, schools, and community.

A National Board Certified Teacher is the greatest gift we can give to a student, to a classroom, to our community. Raise Your Hand is a bold initiative to add 500 new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) to Huntsville City, Madison City and Madison County school systems.. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education.
